Katie is a Research Affiliate with the Center for Social Science Research at George Mason University. Her research focuses on the non-academic factors that influence students’ success in school, including food and nutrition, maternal and child health, and school discipline policies. Katie has extensive experience in program evaluation and has served as an evaluator for farm-to-school and maternal and child health programs. She also provides evaluation training and technical assistance to AmeriCorps programs in Mississippi. Her research has been published in the Journal of Hunger and Environmental Nutrition, Sociological Inquiry, Sociological Spectrum, and the Journal of Rural Social Sciences. She has a Ph.D. in Sociology from George Mason University and a Masters of Public Policy from the University of Maryland College Park.
